Juba, the capital city as well as the largest city in the Republic of South Sudan enjoys a tropical wet and dry climate. As it lies near the equator the temperature remains hot all year round. However, there is some rain fall from November to March. It became the newest national capital in July 2011, when South Sudan formally declared independence from the Republic of Sudan.
Juba also serves as the capital of Central Equatoria, which is the smallest of the ten states of South Sudan. Juba has the distinction of being one of the fastest growing cities in the world, thanks in part to oil and foreign investors.
As mentioned above Juba has been enjoying an economic boom, especially during the past 5 years with many investors traveling there for business purposes. Several regional and international businesses have a presence in Juba, with commercial banks and other regional finance service providers and the National Insurance Corporation all having branches in Juba.
